Coptic Hospital is a fully fledged hospital that is part of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Their aim is to offer affordable medical care while ensuring that quality is not compromised at any point. The recently expanded Coptic Hospital has increased their capacity to handle a large capacity of patients for a varied number of services both as outpatient and Inpatient. The outstanding facilities and professionalism has made Coptic Hospital a top preference of many in the region.
The Problem
Coptic Mission Hospital had been using an analog Intercom solution for their voice network. The system had many problems that quickly crippled the communication system within the Hospital.
- Frequent disconnections between phones and pabx due to old lines. More time was dedicated to troubleshooting.
- Required well trained engineers to make any changes to the pabx. It was therefore expensive to maintain
- Extremely difficult to scale. High licensing costs and each new phone required puling of new cables.
- High bills between inter branch communication
- Lack of auto-attendant
The Requirement
Coptic Hospital were looking for a state of the art solution that would enable them to make calls effectively within the hospital and outside as well. Their Key requirements were as below
- HD voice quality within the hospital
- Visibility of Caller ID on the handsets. Ability to also see missed calls and access to voicemail box.
- Handsets that can transfer, forward, hold and make conference calls.
- PBX system that can support a high volume of calls with zero tolerance to drop offs
- PBX system that is highly and easily scalable. Be able to interlink as many branches as possible to reduce on provider monthly bills for calls.
- PBX system that offers various call statistics
- VoIP solution that is extremely secure
The Solution – IP PBX
The key to meeting their requirements was to find a system that has all these features, with zero licensing costs. Network Options settled for Grandstream UCM series of on-premise IP PBXs that allow for both analog and digital services and devices as well. The UCM series provides a fully comprehensive unified communication platform, including video, data, mobility and security support, with all features included and no licensing fees ever required.
For the three branches of Coptic Mission Hospital in Kenya, three UCMs were deployed at each. UCM6208 for main and UCM6202 for branch offices. All UCMs are peered together to ensure for audio and video communication between inter-branch is possible at no cost. With Grandstream, they were able to manage local calls, IVRs and more. It is now easy to add any new phone at any time from anywhere all at no extra cost. New features like Follow me, Voicemails, DIDs and DODs were extremely useful to the staff. The free yet so powerful Grandstream’s softphone app, GSWave, ensured no Doctor could be missed on phone even when not at their stations but without compromising their privacy by sharing their personal numbers. Since the entire solution required over 300 VoIP endpoints, the Grandstream Zero Config feature was handy to make the deployment easy and fast making the switch from analog to digital almost seemless.
